“Take that! And that!” – The Hero’s Journey

October2
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist and title character in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, is appropriately dubbed a reluctant hero. However, in chapter after chapter, whether it’s slaying spiders or duping goblins, it appears to be Bilbo who manages to resolve the situations that threaten him, the dwarves, and even Gandalf, at times.

Locate an event that threatens the adventurers in one of the chapters in the novel. Analyze how the dwarves’ attitude toward Bilbo and his own perception of himself as the right “burglar” for the job evolve. In other words, what does the challenging episode reveal to Bilbo, the other characters, and the reader about Mr. Baggins? How does it advancce his journey toward becoming a hero? Provide some evidence from the text and cite the page numbers, please.

Bilbo is proving to be very brave and not afraid of anyone. He escapes from Gollum who was chasing him to try to get the ring back. It advances how Bilbo feels about himself because the word get around that, and he shows that, he is not scared.

Could you support your comment with evidence from the text? What is Bilbo doing “RIGHT NOW” that is brave? Why and how do you think he will be rewarded?

Do you recall what we shared in class about writing in all capital letters and using punctuation marks?

In the article “The Poetry in The Hobbit” (2009) Stella Quinn insinuates the hobbit is a novel and not an anthology of poetry. Quinn supports this insinuation by over viewing it in the 1st paragraph. Quinn purpose on paragraph one is to tell readers about book in order to do that he have marvelous details. Quinn employs an energetic and reasonable tone to appeal to those readers who want to know about J.R.R. Tolkien’s book.

    “Poetry in The Hobbit”
In her article “Poetry in the Hobbit”(2009), Stella Quinn argues that the Poetry in The Hobbit is constructed haphazardly or without purpose. Quinn supports this argument by pointing it out in the 1st paragraph. Quinn purpose is to tell about how and why Tolkien uses poetry in his novel. Quinn employs a persuading and stupendous tone to appeal to those readers who like or wants to know about J.R.R Tolkien’s novel.
