Girls – Dying to learn or “bored” to death?

October10
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

There are thousands of young girls for whom the right to attend school is something that they are willing to risk their lives to have. I am reminded of the bravery of Ruby Bridges, who as child, integrated a New Orleans public school under the most hostile conditions.

This week, a 14-year-old Pakistani girl was brutally shot on a van carrying her home from school because her high-profile advocacy of the rights of girls to be educated collided with the extremist in her country who forbid girls to learn.

While some girls are literally risking death to have a chance to go to school, others are “dying” to get as far away from teachers and classrooms as possible.

Why do we have this huge disparity or divergence? Why are some girls desperate to learn and others appear to not be able to care less about school?

In my perspective the reason why we as people take school as a joke, or for granted, is because most children don’t care about other kids not having the right equpiment for school. They think that just because we have it all good and free now that it will be like that forever. Some children think that school is just a place to associate with friends and go home, not realizing that there are kids out there that want to go to school and that would even risk their life because they want to learn. It is also sad that we take school for granted and think that we’re not going to need it in the future. I’ve had many people tell me, “Dont take school for granted. I wish that I could go back, but now it’s too late.”

I greatly appreciate your post, Briana. It’s not too late. You are young, smart, and talented. You have so much to look forward to in your future. You just have to decide not to let anything or anyone distract you. By your own admission, you must work on your attitude – choose greatness!

Some girl’s are desperate to learn because they want to become something in life, and they want to get there education .Others appear to not careless about school because they just don’t want to be there, and they just want to hang around. They also like to empress there boy friend’s and to show other girl’s that they are harder than them which they are really not.

Thank you, I wasn’t saying it was too late for me I was saying that’s what some adults would tell me when I go places and when people ask for money I give my last and they reply to me stay in school and it’s too late for me

I see! I did not read the post correctly. So, you have encountered adults, some of whom are asking for money, that wish they had stayed in school. I got it. Thanks for the clarification!

I think some girls are desperate to learn and others appear to not be able to care less about school because the girls who never had an opportunity to learn want to learn. The girls without no rights to learn are desperate because they feel that they all are equal but they are afraid to speak out because there are consequences. The girls who are learning that don’t want to learn really don’t care because they have been in I school their whole life so basically they have the rights to speak out without having consequences. The girls that are in school actually have it well because they go to school for free and still don’t care, while the girls who can’t learn wishes to be in their positions.

Why are some girls’ desperate to learn and others appear to not be able to care less about school
Some girls are really desperate to learn because they really care about their education and they want the ability to learn and to do the right thing in school and some of them want to make their success out of something while others don’t really care about their success all they do is think about others things they don’t want the ability to learn or get a good education and in life I think everybody deserve a good education even though they don’t want a good education.

  7. October 12th, 2012 at 2:21 PM      Reply Quinisha Says:

Because the students who get free education don’t seem to be very interested an the students who don’t get an free education will give a fourtion to go to school an learn daily.

some girls are desperate to learn because they want to experience new things in school unlike some girls who don’t want to learn and who don’t care anything about school I think every girl dethey should have a good education anyway in life also they deserve a chance in life when it comes to success in life even though some girls don’t want a good education they should get one anyway.

Some girls are desperate to learn because the want to be smart and be somebody in life. Also they want to be a role model to others. Some girls don’t want to learn because the just want to talk, fight, and be disrespectful. This is so true, love shadae.

  11. October 12th, 2012 at 3:24 PM      Reply Bre'Asia Says:

I say that because to some people school is life to them, they don’t want to homeless. They want to be something when they grow up. On the other hand we have people who don’t care about their education they think that even without an education they can be something in life but really they can’t .They try to be popular and fit in the crowd. They think they get more attention when they are bad and when their bad they think that’s a way to become popular. And it’s also free.

  12. October 12th, 2012 at 3:28 PM      Reply Unknown Says:

I don’t think the kids that can’t go to school feel our pain, because if they did then they would have the same opinion that we have on school. The same way that the other girls would die to learn, we will die to stay home from school. On the other hand everyone wants to be educated and have a career, but nobody wants to work for it.

  13. October 12th, 2012 at 3:29 PM      Reply keke Says:

I think that girl’s that do not care is because they got use to not being educated and the girl who do care they, tied of doing stuff for the men’s. They want to get a education and do thing for there selves.

  14. October 12th, 2012 at 3:37 PM      Reply Isis Dave Says:

Some girls want to be able to go to school because they might want to be something when they get older. Others might not care too much about school because they might be lazy, or they are just scared to speak out.

  15. October 12th, 2012 at 3:37 PM      Reply ruqayyah hamilton Says:

Some girls want to come to school because they want to learn. Others come to school because their mothers make them come but when they get in school and to class with their friends the change and, they start to follow their friends. That’s why I think some people come to school to learn and the other come to play.

  16. October 12th, 2012 at 3:40 PM      Reply Corianna Hill Says:

Some girls are desperate to get their education because they might want to see how it feels to get an education instead of fighting to get an education. They might want to grow up and become somebody. Other girls appear not to care because they don’t have to fight for their education. They can just go to school and get one but some girls go to school to see their boyfriends and friends and play. Some might come to school just to get out of the house.

  17. October 12th, 2012 at 3:46 PM      Reply Bennecia Says:

Well, I think some girls are desperate to learn because it’s not free to go to school in other countries and they don’t have the rights to do anything. But some of us don’t care about education because it’s free and we’re used to it. But we don’t realize that everyone needs education.

I think young women need to be thankful for their education because in some countries women are dying to learn, while others are just cleaning and having babies. In those countries, where women are not seen as important, they don’t want women in power.

I wanted to review some articles about the toxins and health risks associated with tattoos but I could not access it at work. Have you read any research about the possible risk for young people?

I think some girls don’t want to learn because the boys that they are trying to go with are worrying them, and so the girls are not trying to do the work.
