I’m from sun burns,
When my face burned brightly, and my back was on fire.
I’m from short summers and short school years, from a place where winter doesn’t exist, and summer gets up to 97 degrees or higher.
I’m from camping sites and dogs hanging out car windows, carefree.
I’m from friends who would die for me, loyal and trustworthy, from a family I can’t describe, loving and caring. Yet strict at the same time.
I’m from cookouts filled with the smell of fried chicken and burgers.
I am from Miami, Florida in the year 1999!

To slobbery pants and purrs.
I am from clicks on the Dell computer
To silent rings on the phone
From hanging with friends
And being told to come home.
I am from wet splashes with the family
To lying on a summer night under the stars
From school dances and parties with friends
To telling deep dark secrets while catching a late movie.
I am from rough pain
And sharp happiness
But most of all I am from
People who care?
And people who I know will always be there
That’s where I’m from

Where I’m from:
I’m from cries of pain and of joy.
From “Toys R Us teddy bears” from the outer skirts of Georgia.
I am from the sweet smell of honeysuckles, and daises.
The very large oak tree in my backyard.
And from opening 1 present on Christmas eve.
From Sa’Quira and Derwin.
From the sound of the sound of the ice cream truck.
And ice cream dripping down my chin.
From you can’t do anything if you don’t try, and always be somebody in life.

And playing in the woods till the crack of dawn.
From under the bathroom sink, hiding my secrets from the world.

Where I’m from.
I’m from cold winters and hot summer nights.
Snow is so cold there it feels as if you touched ice.
I’m from the ghetto city with no palm trees.
A city where there is barely security.
I’m from Detroit Michigan. Right now I don’t feel like going back again.
I’m from earthquakes and mistakes where I watched my family tear apart.
I’m from a city where there is nothing but happy hearts.
But 95 percent of the people that’s where I’m from without a good life. Move out of state like I did with my mom to start a better life.
I’m from a holy family. That praises god.
I’m from the next generation where we all watch stars. Where I’m from? A hard knock city that I wished would have never been disaster.
My hometown needs to pick itself back up before it plasters.
I’m from a family of masters. Who tries their best to succeed.
I’m from heaven. I have the heart of a angel and a mind of an African queen.
I’m from dirt.
But the stars is where I reach. Bout time we hear a young black sister preach.
Where I’m From
I am from blue skies and nature
Where trees grow tall and grass stays short
Where people help one another not fighting because one looked at the other
Where cheese is made and eaten in different sorts
Hang from the trees as I please
Hair blows from the breeze
Running in the woods at noon with my twin
Knowing I will always have a friend
Wisconsin is where I am from
I’m from a world where kitkats are made with milk chocolate and wafer cookies
I’m from a place where hot fries and takis are eaten and a place where soda and fruit punch is consumed
That’s where I’m from
I’m from a place where we have cook outs and family reunions
I’m from a place where the use of technology is immense
A place where the spread of aids is viral and the killing of young men is massive
Well where I’m from no one has peace and violence is the thing
To tell you the truth this is where I’m from!
Where I’m from
IS A PEACEFUL PLACE THAT NOBODY GETS HURT

Where I’m From
I am from blue and black skies,
from day to nightly lies,
I am from deforestation and poor vegetation,
to where you can see the dirt and patches of grass,
I’m from travel and discovery,
from one address to another,
I’m from freshly made dough to where am I going to go,
I am from learning and not burning,
I’m from where police officers crowd the streets,
and not where they need to be,
I’m from early boyfriends to heartbreak feelings,
To where failure is not an option, but TRYING is the key,
Nobody knows who I really am, but hopefully my long lasting FAM,
I am from where the people want to make it to heaven, which should be their destination,
Where sin is heavy and not enough peace,
I’m from where you have more pop music than church music in your phone,
I am from where children care about clothes, shoes, and hair
More than an education to get the clothes, shoes, and hair fixed,
I’m from a world that I don’t know but my zip code,
I’m from Love, Loyalty, and Respect to where theres not enough around
And where you can turn your life around.

I’m from the snowflakes that fall on the ground telling children to come around
I’m from ear sizzling sounds of cop car sirens and beeping horns
Busy streets trash at my feet
I’m from gigantic buildings that decorate the sky dark alleys where people hide
I’m from abandon parks not being able to see the stars when it’s dark
I’m from the apartment building view where I see lost buildings and new hopes and dreams
I’m from the beauty behind the madness
I’m from where dreams are lost and found

“Where I’m From”
I’m from a low populated area where the grass isn’t
really green.
A place where everyone knows each other.
“Hey!” and “Hi!” is all you hear.
Where the roads have bumps
And hills that cause you to shake.
In the country,
All you smell is freshly cut grass.
Old houses built in the 1980’s sit
Happily with their owners.
Stray dogs and cats run everywhere.
Abandoned homes no humidity, just dry.
Tornadoes form, but rarely though.
Birds communicate while cars zoom by.
A peaceful little town.
A place unheard of, that’s where
I’m from, the natural state, and
I’m proud.
