Promoting the Rights of Girls to Live, to Learn, to Lead

October9
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

On this date, one year ago, Malala Yousafzai a young Pakistani schoolgirl was shot in the head by the Taliban. Surviving the would be fatal shot was in itself miraculous. However, what has transpired since then is just as spectacular. Malala has helped galvanize the world in support of the rights of girls around the world to live, to learn, and to lead.

What can we do? What can you do to promote the human rights of girls? How might you make a difference?

Prior to viewing this post, students viewed the “It’s a Girl” documentary.

  1. October 9th, 2013 at 9:31 AM      Reply Sedricka Says:

Girls are the most important thing in the world to save and keep us safe. People say were not that important but to me we are we all are important specially in god hands he save all of us so we should all get along and treat each other how they suppose to be treated. If I would have to save them little girls I would do my best by doing it. It hurts how you just sit right there and just kill little children and there girls. So I would pray and pray everyday so god can watch over me and save me and make them stop!

  2. October 9th, 2013 at 9:38 AM      Reply Tamya Says:

Everyone has rights and no one has more rights than anyone. Everyone has a right to vote and do what they want but women are getting treated horribly because of the things we do. We have rights to vote and do whatever we want just like the men do. If I was the president I would make a law that says “Women have rights too so make them seem noticeable and decrease the killing of women”. WE HAVE RIGHTS, EVERYONE HAS RIGHTS so stop the killing and show love to everyone in this world including the WOMEN.

  3. October 9th, 2013 at 9:38 AM      Reply Jordan Says:

We can help save girls lives, give them an education, love, and respect. I can stand up to their government and prove to them that it’s not right; we can put these people that cause harm upon kids in jail. I can make a difference by creating a program to help save girls that are being mistreated and help them live a better life.

What can we do? What can you do to promote the human rights of girls? How might you make a difference?
Every young Black girl have the right to say and do what they want I don’t know why the people on the video killed over 200 million little baby’s girls when I say the video and how they started showing how they killed the little baby’s girls I went to cry because they are going throw a lot loose there baby .
When they was talking about how the girl’s get abandoned by there family and how they leave them on the side of the river and don’t do nothing about it because they are scared something bad is going happened to them because they are trying to keep there baby girl’s I was mad to see what the parents go throw.

  5. October 9th, 2013 at 10:21 AM      Reply Zanieshia Says:

We can start by helping the girls get an education. We can vote for their rights. We also can have people who really care to teach. Doing these things can help not only the girls but also their community, they would have more teachers, more schools, more hospitals, more libraries and there literacy rate might improve higher than expected. I think everyone should be able to get an education.

  6. October 9th, 2013 at 12:50 PM      Reply Jakeria Says:

    What Can We Do?
We could go to Afghanistan and other places around the world and protest that women can have all the freedom and rights that women have.

  7. October 9th, 2013 at 12:51 PM      Reply tamesha Says:

I can first start off by talking to the government about Syria. Then ill start talking about rights for every gender and every race. I don’t think that is right for a young women that is the same as a young man get hurt for trying to stand up for what is true. I might make a difference by voting on the rights for girl any and everywhere. we can make a change if we all come together as one.

  8. October 9th, 2013 at 12:51 PM      Reply Destiny Says:

I will gather all of the female and bring them to America. They don’t deserve to die at a young age. Speaking from all girls in America we are lucky to be alive right now!

  9. October 9th, 2013 at 12:53 PM      Reply kayla Says:

First I can start off by talking to the government and the president about the people in India and China killing there little girls when they found out there pregnant. That’s like taking ones on life especially for the mothers. No mother wants to go home and find there child killed because of the Taliban. To promote the human rights of girls I would get my education and learn what I need to know so I can teach the India and China girls that are not killed what they need to know. If the government doesn’t agree then I would start a protest and speak up for these young girls that are not allowed to learn. I Do Believe We Can Make A Change!!!!!!!!!

  10. October 9th, 2013 at 12:58 PM      Reply zarrayanna Says:

I might say all people should live .Not only boys should live but just because we abe living girl we should be treated just like they would treat us if we was a boy . We is a human being so be living just like they would want a boy to we should .

  11. October 9th, 2013 at 12:58 PM      Reply Taniyah Says:

We can go an talk to our president and ask if we can help the young girls there. I can stand up and speak my mind the way Malala did and be a leader who solves problems. That’s not fair to me or them!

    • October 24th, 2013 at 12:53 PM      Reply Ryen Says:

Ok,so I like what you said about standing up and being heard, but I think you should take out the part about talking to the president. Because it will take a lot of money. But hey I’m just saying.

    • October 24th, 2013 at 12:56 PM      Reply zarrayanna Says:

That’s ture we can speak our mind so nobody should not be killed or harmed for speaking their mind if they want to go to school they should speak their mind about it

    • October 24th, 2013 at 1:11 PM      Reply Deasia Says:

I think your post is good and i believe Malala can say anything she want

    • October 24th, 2013 at 3:44 PM      Reply mashilyn Says:

Yes I believe that we should go and talk to our president about what is happening to little girls. Men should not be taking people’s children because, parents love their kids and love them as long as they last. And I know that if I had a child which I’m not going to have, but never say never. Anyways like I was saying if I did I wouldn’t want no one to take my child either, and get shot in the head because he/she want to go to school.

    • October 25th, 2013 at 1:34 PM      Reply De'Asia Says:

I think its not fair because malala can speak her mind and stand up and say anythng she wants.

  12. October 9th, 2013 at 12:59 PM      Reply Jakeria Says:

We can do a lot just by fighting for their rights cause they are equal. We can promote that they well be alright no more girls killed. I can make a change just by helping them, supporting them and not judge them. I’ll tell them they will be safe no harm to them.

  13. October 9th, 2013 at 1:11 PM      Reply ta'mya Says:

We can try to help these girls fight for their rights. I can go to their country and do a speech. Tell them that girls are the same as boys, so why not help them, let them go to school, and live. Why kill them? I make a difference by going to help them. Let them learn and live without being scared of when their going to die. Or what they’re having and how to protect them.

  14. October 9th, 2013 at 1:12 PM      Reply Ryen Says:

What I would do for girls in India and China is help the mothers to get to America. I don’t think it is fair for girls to be killed, I mean just tell me two (2) good reasons why girls are killed…… I think that girls are very talented. Also with out girls the universe would be nothing, So ther is no reason to kill girls!

  15. October 9th, 2013 at 1:16 PM      Reply Sincere Says:

I think that we should start a protest just for them [girls in Pakistan, India, and China] and probably have a discussion about girls in other countries who have their freedom. I would put up billboards, signs, posters, newspapers, magazines, and broadcast on the news to let all girls have their independence! It might make a difference if they could gain the right to go out of their houses and just be happy that they are girls, and not hoping that they were born a boy. The phrase “It’s a girl” should not be the 3 most deadliest words in the world because any birth should bring the most joyfulness phrase in the world. So I would be able to change that if my plan goes well. IF WE HAVE INDEPENDENCE THEY SHOULD TOO!!!

    • October 10th, 2013 at 3:44 PM      Reply charleslyn Says:

I agree with that we should put up billboards and other construction stuff to put up and tell the people in our community what the women and girls are going threw in india it is very hard to live a life like that just because you want to go school to learn get an education and be somebody when you growup so yes i agree with you and you had a great response.

    • October 24th, 2013 at 1:22 PM      Reply Diani Says:

I do think girls and women should be able to go where they want and be able to do what they want in China, Pakistan, and India.

  16. October 9th, 2013 at 1:29 PM      Reply zoriah Says:

We can go to the Taliban and tell them to stop what their doing before it goes to far we also can vote or protest to shut them down. I think girls have the same equal rights as boys. We should not have to be born an die because of we are. I will make a difference and how cause I will fight an I will never stop in till we do what’s right.

  17. October 9th, 2013 at 1:29 PM      Reply Jameya Says:

What can we do? We can spread the help and support around the world to the countries who desperately needs it and gather the girls in their countries who wants to learn and go through their government and build a school{s} for girls young and older. What can you do to promote the human rights of girls? What I can do is go to the boys to girls and women to men to relate them to see of there are any difference from one another. The promotion of their human rights will become defensive to the men and boys who don’t want them to learn and go against their belief. I would give the girls a chance to promote their feelings and thoughts of wisdom and go through the government with it to give them the reasons of their rights. How might you make a difference? I can make a difference by putting the girls and boys together to learn and see what kind of knowledge increased in the girls and go to the government with the results and then they’ll see that it must be done to include the girls in education.

  18. October 9th, 2013 at 2:13 PM      Reply India Says:

Well what we can do to stop this madness is unthinkable .but what we can do to promote our girls right is to rise up as one and fight for our rights in other countries because the bays can just survive on their own. they might think they can but we all no they really cant. There’s a thousand reasons how we can help but we have to start with us and make a change in our heart to want to help the girls in the other countries .

  19. October 9th, 2013 at 2:15 PM      Reply Amari Says:

I think we should protest because women have the same rights as men do. We are all human beings so why can’t we just come to the fact that no body is perfect. If I could I would write about it in a newspaper so everyone in the world will know that girls have the same rights as men do. I know I can make a big difference about this situation because I’m a girl and I know that the girls who aren’t being treated right or dying for no reason are saying why, why are we going through this? Malala is doing a wonderful thing and she should keep going until she gets everyone to have the same rights

  20. October 9th, 2013 at 2:22 PM      Reply Alexis C Says:

I think that all girls should be treated equally and should be able to live there life to the right time of end. I think that the fact that they tried to kill Malala is crazy because she wanted was equal rights for the other females in her village and mostly her country. Maybe if our president speaks out about the girl shortage they might make a change or try. Everyone can try and make a change one by one but it might take till that one special last person for the change to be a success I think that the life of girls should be celebrated because I mean we already have to share the word male in the word female and im not just saying that because I am a girl my self or because I have to.

  21. October 9th, 2013 at 2:24 PM      Reply Phaliyah Says:

What we can do is appreciate and respect the fact that we can live and go to school and that we are free from that hatred. What I can do to promote the rights of girls is by appreciating that we are females, that we should be able to speak up if we want to, especially the Indian and Palestinian girls. If I could make a difference, I would not let anyone take place in genocide because we need both genders to reproduce more kids so they can do the same over and over and over.

  22. October 9th, 2013 at 2:24 PM      Reply jermyia Says:

What can we do to make a differents in the world? What can I do to promote the human rights of girls?

What we can do is that we can protest, make a girl group on how we can help and a lot more other things. We can make a differents in this world by standing up and looking out for each other because girls have rights to and they need to be seen.!!!!!!

  23. October 9th, 2013 at 2:25 PM      Reply tiamya Says:

I think we should go around with some posters on a day and celebrate girl’s rights. It might make a difference when the world sees we are also so important, or we can have the first lady talk. The girls probably feel special because that mean you hear the first lady talk that is also a girl to talk to you about girls right, and she also the first lady of the state.

We can start a group to stop the killing of the little girls in India and China ( etc.) . The name of the group could be Stop The Killing Of The Girls. We can talk to the president so he can understand how we are feeling and he would probly feel the same way to. But we can talk to him and maybe persuade him to go and talk to their Prime Minster. And If we can persuade him all we can do is hope that their Prime Minster agree with us. And if we don’t persuade him we will get create a campaign for it and have people vote. All ages not only 18 or older but 10 and older. I can make a difference because some people might look back and say oh that’s Rickyia the little girl who made a change by saving the gender of females in China and India (etc.). And the little girls who are younger than me when the get older would probly say that’s the little girl who saved my life. I might be a hero to the little girls because I helped and saved them.

HOW MIGHT DO I MAKE A DIFFERNET BY IMPROVE MY SELF TO DO POSTIVE THINGS SO THEREFOR THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T GO THE SCHOOL SHOW THEM HOW TO BEHAVIOR AND BECOME SOME IN LIFE.

  26. October 9th, 2013 at 2:34 PM      Reply anyia Says:

We can help the homeless by creating an all girls’ school. It should not be that certain people are allowed to come into a school or onto a school bus and shoot a person. They can’t just walk in and try to pick up a student and around and tell them that they can make it – can’t learn and can’t live. Don’t let anyone bring you down and make you not feel good about yourself. I think we can help them by encouraging them.

I think we need to try and help get the girls to a different country. I can try to get a few people I know to donate there money to the girls so they can get on a plane and come to America and have a better life. If I had the chance to put myself in those girls place I would in a heart beat.

  28. October 9th, 2013 at 3:14 PM      Reply Miracle Says:

I think that we can star a club or group so that people can understand that this is very serious. With this club we can have signs up, let our friends know about it, and talk about it in every conversation we have. To me that video we watched, “Its a Girl Movie.com” was very sad. This lady said that she killed 8 girls just because they weren’t boys. Another sad thing I heard was that they abandoned girls whose births violate the single child birth control policy.(Parent’s of daughter’s flee to save their family.)

    • October 10th, 2013 at 9:58 AM      Reply sedricka Says:

  29. October 9th, 2013 at 3:15 PM      Reply mashilyn Says:

Well, what I would do is make an announcement on the news that parents should never take there eyes off of their children because that’s how things happen quickly. And I would make a difference because when I’m going somewhere and I see parents with their children, I would tell them that you should never take your eyes off of your children because things could go wrong very easily!

  30. October 9th, 2013 at 3:17 PM      Reply vilencia Says:

I think we need to try to write a letter explaining that they shouldn’t treat girls like that. They should treat us like ladies. I can do to promote the human rights of girls by getting all the girls and protest about the problem. I can make a difference by getting all the girls in the whole and go down their and, protest with my signs and, while walking singing a song about the girl. As Beyoncé says who run the world ( girls).

  31. October 9th, 2013 at 3:18 PM      Reply Aerielle Says:

I think that we should all write letters to all the counties that kill and abandon girls just because. Just because they are girls, they shouldn’t be killed. I think that we should make a group of all girls that protests the killing of girls. Girls and boys both are equal. If I could, if would make a place for all abandoned girls. It’s just sad that parents are forced to kill there baby and kid girls, and without girls, how will we make other kids? People really need to step up to realize that girls are nothing different than boys and we really need to stop all of this.

  32. October 9th, 2013 at 3:31 PM      Reply Nichelle Says:

What I can do to save the rights of girls is protest and say this is not fair for girls and everyone should have equality. What I can do to human rights of girls is try to come in an agreement or treaty to stop this. I can make a difference because women can have their children (girls) home and not died. Also this makes them have a complete family.

  33. October 9th, 2013 at 3:36 PM      Reply katrina Says:

What we can do is we could put all the girls in one country and they will have all girls in one class like Brown Middle School is. There will be no boy in the classroom; the girls will be safe. I can do is I will put up sign that say no young girls should not be dying because of man .I can make a difference is put the man who is doing is need to go to jail.

  34. October 9th, 2013 at 3:37 PM      Reply Daisha Says:

We can start a protest and protest until they treat us equally, and when we protest our slogan would be, “Not Me, I Am Free.” If you can give a male the application before you give me one, or if you can give a boy a free education before you give me one, I say that you can give it to us at the same time. Then I we will be equal . For me to make a change, I will grow up, I will do my work, and I wil be someone. I will try my best to do something I like, and I will try to out rank THE MAN.

    • October 10th, 2013 at 3:33 PM      Reply Aerielle Says:

One of the best comments on here. Its not fair that it have to be like that over there. I think that we girls should all write letters, make a group, or just tell someone that all of this is happing so at least some of us will try to do someting.

You really explained why we should have equal rights and why no one else should have more rights than anyone in this world. Your writing is excellent and I strongly agree.

  35. October 9th, 2013 at 3:38 PM      Reply jessica Says:

I think that we can help the people in India by getting them new clothes, shoes, and better homes. We can also organize charities for the parents who don’t have the money because they’re too many babies and children being killed and becoming missing. We can promote them by saving our good things lsuch as money and clothes, so that we can ship it off to them. I think that if I do what I promise, their environment would be better and good things would happen for the girls and their parents.

I use to think even the smallest person, shyest, or even less fortunate has the power to change how girls see themselves. I believe I am that girl who will stand out of the crowd of girls who doubt themselves to write a powerful and strong speech and travel to every school, neighborhood, church or any other place and read it. Girls then will realize we are one nation and the next generation.

Promoting the Rights of Girls to Live, To Learn, To Lead

What can we do? What can you do to promote the human rights of girls? How might you make a difference?

What we can do is stand up for what’s right because girls want to be somebody in life no one should have to get shot in the head just because they want to go to school and get an education. That means Malala wanted to become someone and achieve her goals. What I can do to promote the human rights of girls is if I want to go to school and be somebody in life then I have the right to do it no one should have to tell me I need to be in school because I choose to be there for a reason and that’s to learn. I will make a difference by not talking back to any of my parents or disrespecting my teachers and elders I will do what I have to do to be what I want to be because I Realize I Am The Future!!

I can help the girls that can’t go to school by have children that don’t appreciate the fact that they have every thing that children out of this state don’t have. The school should see if they agree with the school to remove children that don’t like school don’t and exchange them with girls in India and China so they can go to school
I can protest until my voice echo around this world to help a child just like me. I won’t let a man think that they can hold back a girl from living and becoming someone in life to accomplish their dream.
Im going to make a difference in this because every girl will remember me as the girl who help them become someone like me.
