It is a story that has evoked about as much fury in public opinion as the snow itself caused in the streets. The stories that are emerging are harrowing and heroic. Here are the links to two articles about the ordeal: 6 Q’s About the News | Ice Storm Strands Thousands in Ill-Equipped South and Atlanta Copes with Stress After the Storm .

What was your experience? How did you get home? Did your parents make it home as well? What was the best and the worst part about the ordeal for you and your family? What did you learn about your city, your peers, and yourself?

How did I get home I walked home my mom came in picked me up so we walk with my dog coco.Yes my mom got off of worked early to come in pick me up.The fun part about was that I made a snowman and the bad par about was that I couldn’t come to school. That they should be ready when a snow storm comes we shouldn’t go to school and parent’s should not go to work and teachers.

It wasn’t a fun experience I’ll tell you. My dad didn’t come home for three days straight because he was stuck at his job downtown. My mom was an hour late when she picked me up when it usually takes eight minutes to get to me. The worst part was when my dog broke her leg in the snow because she’s really small. She’s had been at the shelter two days now. I learned that Atlanta was very much unprepared. They should have closed everything down the day before knowing the storm would come. All problems would have been avoided.

The reactions to the snowstorm were very disorganized. I didn’t get home very safely we got into a car accident. But when we got home we were very hungry and tired. My back was hurting I couldn’t even lie on the bed without moving. The next day I stayed home, but the snow was unacceptable. I don’t understand why people would let us children go to school when they knew it was going to snow and many people were stuck on the highway.

My experience in the snowstorm was very fortunate! I was able to make it home in less than an hour, pick up my kids, and even stop by the store with no tragedies. My husband left the house to see if anyone nearby needed food or help getting home since he was available. I am glad to hear that everyone made it safe, but I hope that our city officials are planning to be prepared the next time.

Over the snow storm I had a blast. I played in snow all day and a night I slepped over at my friends house. The snow was so much fun, I sledded at bobby jones golf course and I had a coupl of snowball fights at my house. I learned a lot about my city, we were so unprepared for the situation. I think they should have closed everything and made sure that people got home safely.

At first I didn’t know it, but I lucked out on the snow day. On the snow day my class was going on a field trip which was about 30 minutes away. Once we received the news about the snowstorm we left the musuem early and hit very minimal traffic. Once we got back we were already dismissed so I waited for my bus. It was the first one in first round, and we were only delayed our departure by 20 minutes. I was very fortunate to get home by 2:30 and my sister and mom got home about an hour later. So, I am very grateful I got home very early, my bus was on time and didn’t crash or break down and that my mom and sister got back safely. I hope that next time there is a weather event that they will know what is the best thing to do and be prepared

For me, the storm was okay. We didn’t have to go to school, which I liked, but it took a while to get home because of traffic. My sister came home around six o’clock. When ever we tried to go somewhere, the stairs of my apartment were frozen. Little kids got to play in the snow, of course, but they could have gotten frost bite or something. I think Georgia should be better prepared the next time we have a winter storm.

My snow storm experience was dreadful ! On my way home, the bus driver told my friend and I to get off the bus, and we walked 3 miles to our houses. Then, my sister was stuck in school for 6 extra hours, and she got home at 11:00 pm. When she came home, she was crying , and said she never wants to go to school again. Luckily, we were safe and the next day, everyone in the neighborhood had a snowball fight ! I wish that Atlanta will be more prepared in the following years because this snow storm was truly the worst.

How was my snowy week you ask. Well, it both has both pros and cons I couldn’t decide if I like my snowy week. I will do con’s first. Ok so(1)I was on a field trip and we had to cut it short because of the weather.(2)It took at least 4 hours just to wait for my parents to pick me up. And finally (3) I got sick with a cold 1 day after it snowed. Now to the pro’s (1)I had snowball fights.(2)I got some hot chocolate (3) I made new friends in the neighborhood. And finally (4)It has been 8 years since I have ever seen snow since I am from Florida. Overall, I had a lot of fun. I wish it will snow again except not as a blizzard but as a light storm.

Remember when you were watching the news and you saw all those people stranded on the streets in their cars? Well, that was me. I was coming home from my basketball practice with my dad and I hit this huge sea of cars on the highway. They weren’t moving, and they looked abandoned. We waited for around 30 minutes and saw that this was going nowhere. My father and I decided to park the car (because we knew that it would go nowhere) and we walk about a mile and a half to the nearest Kroger. Luckily, the Krogers were open late for travelers and we got some stuffed animals and we slept there. I only got about 2 hours of sleep, but any sleep was better than no sleep. At around 9:00 am, we went back to our car on the highway (some cars moved from the pile of cars) and we tried to get home in it. It took us about 1 hour to get home in our car, and I was glad to be home. We chilled at home for the remainder of the days off, and, honestly, it felt good to go back to school.

My experience during the snow storm was very exciting and a bit dangerous. I did not arrive home off the bus until around 8:00 due to the ice covering the road. The next morning me and my dad had to walk two miles to pick up my younger brothers from a family who had volunteered to pick them up from school. They had offered to let them stay the night because there was no other way to get them through the snow storm. Over the next few days of heavy fallen snow, we had decided to try and enjoy ourselves while we still had this rare opportunity. My family had a great time having snowball fights and sledding down snow covered hills. I had a lot of fun getting to have the chance to spend time with my family and do some things that people in Atlanta do not get to do very often. I wish things like this would happen more often in the city and that we would get to share more time with friends and family.

If I was comparing myself to other students, I would say i’m pretty lucky. My field trip was cancelled in the middle of the field trip. Our teachers brought us back to school early and by the time we got back to school, I was starving. luckily, traffic was just about to start. I got my sack lunch and quickly got on my bus. On the ride home, traffic just started, so it took a while until I got home. I got home at my regular time which was around four o’clock, and ate my lunch. I had to eat again though because my lunch was a hot dog bun with one piece of ham in it.

My day was horrible l even though we left school early because of the snow the bus ride home took 4 hours which normally it only takes 30 minutes every car was either sliding down when we went up a hill or it would slide uncontrollably . At first i was really happy because it was actually snowing in Atlanta but it turned out to be pretty bad i really didn’t get time to spend with my family because my sister had to sleep over at North Atlanta which was horrible because they didn’t get food until the next morning ! my dad came home until 1 am b/c of all the traffic and the abandoned cars. I really do hope that the next snow storm everything is more organized!

I had a fun time during the snowstorm. I went bowling, sledding, made a huge snowball, made a collapsing snowman, roasted marshmallows, watched Captain Phillips, and went bowling. The only bad thing is that I had a two-and-a-half hour bus ride, when the bus got stuck on a hill for an hour, and got stuck on my street for 3 days, because it had bald tires. The traffic was terrible, too. My friend Tanner and I were walking down Northside Drive and we saw people drawing on their cars with snow! Overall, I had a really good experience in the snowstorm. I hope next time we have a snowstorm like this, we will be better prepared for what has to come.

  28. February 3rd, 2014 at 6:38 PM      Reply Benjamin Says:

My was experience with the snow was actually pretty awesome. The only downside for me and many others was the traffic. When I got to the house I took the wheels off of my long board and ” snowboarded.” I had a lot of fun besides the fact that it was hard to control. I went down a diversity of different things. Trails, iced over street and sledding hills. I also saw a bunch of kids sliding down a sledding hill. At this point on Thursday though a lot of the snow had been sledded off and they were sledding on have snow and half grass. Overall I had a great time with the snow. I just hope the city is a little bit more prepared for the snow next time.

  29. February 3rd, 2014 at 6:39 PM      Reply Jazmine Says:

My experience with the snow wasn’t so great. I was excited at first, but my bus didn’t show up to pick us up, and I got stuck at school for five hours waiting for it. Then When my bus finally arrived, I was on it for another five hours. My friends mom ended up picking us up from the bus and walking us back to our apartment complex. Thankfully, my mom had gotten worried and was waiting for us outside. My mom and I walked back to our apartment, and ended up getting there at about eleven in the evening. My brother had stayed home sick from Jackson Elementary, so we didn’t have to worry about getting him home, which is fortunate because it sounded like Jackson was having a lot of problems getting kids out of school. I’m hoping that Atlanta is more prepared next time, considering that other parts of the country are getting up to a foot of snow and are functioning fine, and here we’re having panic attacks over two inches. Maybe next year we’ll be a bit more cautious.

  30. February 3rd, 2014 at 6:43 PM      Reply Nicholas Says:

I had a fun snow break, but many others didn’t. Some students didn’t get home or got home at 12:00. Overall APS should have closed school when they knew the school storm was coming. Atlanta was prepared for this snowstorm we didn’t have enough sand. The citizens also weren’t prepared because they all left at the same time. Hopefully next time we will all be prepared for an upcoming snow storm.

At the time, I was scared but now I look back on it and laugh. My dad was not very happy. He had to walk 8 miles till someone picked him up. I think that the city officials should’ve canceled school that night. My parents wouldn’t have gone through this. I hope next time this happens, they should be more prepared. I say that it was a very big wake up call to everyone.

During the snowstorm I was very fortunate. I know that many people got stuck in the car for up to 24 hours! Lucky for me I was only on the bus for 2 hours. It started out with going on a field trip to Carlos Museum in Emory. Unfortunately, we had to leave early because it had started to snow. The classes that were at Emory were on the road for at least an hour trying to get back to the school. Once we got to the school we had to go straight to our sixth period. There I waited for at least an hour for my bus to be called. Once I got on my bus it then took me about 2 hours to get home. Instead of going home though I went to my cousin’s house because my mom and sister were stuck in traffic. I ended up spending the night with her which was very fun. All in all it was a great experience for me but, I think Atlanta should be more prepared and organized next time.

My snowstorm experience was terrible. I was stuck on the bus for at least 4 hours. Then on top of that, the bus driver made us walk a mile to our houses. The walk home was brutal because I wasn’t dressed correctly. It took at least 45 minutes for me to walk home. There is a hill you have to go down to get to my house and it was frozen solid. I called my mom and told her to walk home because the roads and traffic were horrible. Many of my friends and teachers were stuck in their cars because of this situation. Atlanta wasn’t prepared and this caused an issue throughout the city. I love the snow but I am glad its over.

My bus came in Round 1, and left the school at 1:30pm. I was used to traffic on the bus ride, but the snow made it horrible. I got home at 5:30pm, and I’m the first stop. My mom picked me up at the bus stop, and she drove me and my sister home. We were about to run out of gas, and when we reached the station, it ran out of gas, so we drove home. We had no running water for 2 or 3 days. We decided to take a big risk: drive a mile to a gas station that had gas. We got lucky, and then drove a few more miles to find an open resturaunt. At Town Brookhaven, a huge shopping center, the only place that was open was an Irish Pub. I enjoyed the snow, but was disappointed by the efforts of officials.

My snow storm experience was fun! we don’t get a lot of snow down in Atlanta so I was a little happy about it, plus we were out of school for most of the week. I’m from Cleveland, OH so this wasn’t nothing to me, but I still had fun playing in the snow with my friends having snowball fights. I’m a skateboarder so once It got dry enough for me to skate , I went to my little skate spot and started to skate with my friends. Even though I had to watch out for the ice I still had a great time.

My snow day was really fun. My friend, Mary W, and I were riding home on the bus and we got off at another stop and walked a mile and a half home because it was going to take so long. The stop we got off at was near Peachtree Presbyterian Church and then we walked to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. We had to go to the restroom so badly. We were freezing too so we went in and got snacks from the vending machine in the church. Then we walked home and went sledding in her back yard with a bunch of other friends. Even though we had to walk a long time it was well worth it. 🙂

My snow storm experience started off good. We were on a field trip at the museum and it started to lightly snow then it started to stick and we had to leave around 11am and I didn’t get home till 10pm! We got stuck on Roswell road for 2 hours. We got stuck a few times but luckily my mom grew up in New York & Chicago so it was no problem to get out of the situation. The thing that slowed us down the most were the people and traffic that continued to spin out in front of us. Gratefully we all made it home safely. The next all of the neighbors and kids came outside to enjoy the snow. The storm wasn’t so bad it was the trip home that made it worse for people.

My experience was very interesting. First off my bus couldn’t get out of the parking lot for almost two hours. Then it took me another hour to get home when it shouldn’t have taken 10 minutes. When I got home finally I realized that I was all alone, but then my dad called me and said that he had gone to pick up my little sister, and my mom went to pick up my brother and other sister but her car slid off the road and a kind man was getting them home. I was very relieved, but a little upset at Atlanta because they would not of had such a big problem if they had been prepared.

Then we watched “Bad Grandpa” and then we made pasta at ten and ate the pasta.

My personal experience of the snow was scary, fun and fascinating. The reason it was scary was because APS was not prepared at all, so students and teachers were completely trapped. Most important of all was the ice, areas were snow was freezing was terrifying. Cars were sliding and causing wrecks, cars were stuck in places, and people were un able to go places due to the ice covering all of the roads. The explanation for the fun part was because it SNOWED in hotlanta, which is pretty crazy. The snow was beautiful. I got to slead and skate on my feet were ever i wanted, basically. The fascinating journey was that i happened to be sick the Tuesday the day of the major begging of the snow storm. Then my day got a little crazy! i had to return to school due to the fact my friend was stuck at school and had no ride home, so i quickly put on a jacket and walked down to sutton to get her. Luckily i live close so it wasn’t that big of a deal. I picked her up and we returned to my house as fast as we could to warm up! After that day, i hung out with friends and enjoyed the snow, but i also prayed and thought about those who didn’t have a home or couldn’t get home.

When it first started to snow I was on a field trip. We left immediately after we found out which was around 12:10. We were forced to take main roads because the express way was very backed up it took us almost two hours to get back to school. We had just arrived after they dismissed car ridders and walkers. I had just enough time to get my stuff and go to carpool. I then had to wait in the cafeteria for my dad to come pick me up. He got stuck in some ice and rolled down a hill but he finally got out and was able to come pick me up. It took us about an hour to get home. We finally got there around 4:30 when i usually get home on a normal day. That was a frustrating and boring experience but it then payed off because when i got home i was able to enjoy the snow like any other kid would love to do!

My exprience was that it was shocking, scary, and fun. It was shocking to me because it havent snown in a while it may have snown but it didnt stick like last week. The way i got home was my aunt walked and picked me up from the school because we live down the street from the school. Yes my mom was already home and my stepdad was on his way home. the best part was how it brung us togther we all played in the snow and had fun. The worst thing was that i was scared for my brother,my sister, and my stepdad because they all was in a vehical and could of spined in a circle and fell over. What i learned was that snow can be fun and dangreous. About my city many of people could of got hurt from that ice on the street. my peers and myself is that we can get along have a fun time with each other without arguing.
