Prior to showing the video below, I asked my single-gender, female seventh grade students to respond to the questions posted. After hearing their comments, I showed the clip below, assessed how it may have changed their perceptions, and elaborated a bit more about the person behind the campaign, Sheryl Sandberg. Is this a conversation that you think we need to have? Will you join in? We would like to know what you think and how your own gender and experience influences your opinion.

On this date, one year ago, Malala Yousafzai a young Pakistani schoolgirl was shot in the head by the Taliban. Surviving the would be fatal shot was in itself miraculous. However, what has transpired since then is just as spectacular. Malala has helped galvanize the world in support of the rights of girls around the world to live, to learn, and to lead.
What can we do? What can you do to promote the human rights of girls? How might you make a difference?
